Different Stitches-

Don't use the same stitch for every item you knit. Change it up a bit by learning a few new ones. That way your knitting skills will improve. 

Needles-

Don't just buy any old needles. Try to look for really quality ones. If you buy really crappy needles, you are more likely to go through them really quick.
